Wordbook Expectations

1. Take the pretest without studying the words.
2. Read the definitions of each word. (Note different forms of the word, and pronunciation. These will become more important if you want to improve your writing.
3. Complete exercises 1-3 without looking at the answers in the back of the book.
4. Correct the chapter pretest and exercises Make note of the ones you missed by marking inside of your Wordbook.
5. On a separate sheet of paper, write an original sentence for each word and provide its definition and part of speech.

EXAMPLE: peer-verb: to look carefully, stare.
The teacher peered into my backpack when he was checking my homework.

Your sentence must reveal to me that you understand the meaning of the word. As we move further into grammar, using the correct part of speech will also be important.

6. When you study for the three chapter test (i.e. 1-3) try to identify words that are similar in meaning. Notice the differences between them so you do not become confused.

7. Use the words you have learned in everyday conversation. This will help you as you begin to use them in your writing.

8. It is important that you follow these directions every time you complete an exercise. Your grade will be affected by how well you can follow directions.
